This is the TEDx Greenville (South Carolina) talk I gave to a sold out crowd in 2015.
The service-learning project I describe has been replicated across the US by inspired middle and high school teachers.
At one point you'll hear me briefly mention a small electronic device known as a "Makey Makey". After watching my talk, the COO of the company reached out and asked for my help. Their product was invented by two MIT PHd candidates who thought the device would be fun for "hobbyists" to play with. However, K12 educators across the US were adopting the device for use in the classroom to teach STEM education concepts. Teachers and school systems wanted professional development workshops and so I developed the "Makey Makey Invention Literacy Workshop for Educators" and delivered train-the-trainer versions of the workshop to thousands of people across the US, Canada, and Mexico. The US State Departmenet even asked me to lead workshops for them in far off countries!
