To celebrate "May the 4th" in 2023, I built an X-wing fighter costume and my buddy Ian Baillie built a TIE fighter costume and we "flew" around our home of Asheville, North Carolina.
I bought a used baseball batter helmet as the foundation for my X-wing pilot helmet
I bought the stickers from an artist on ebay.
The body of the X-wing is designed to come apart so I can fit it in my car. 1/2" pvc pipe!
The costume hangs on my shoulders with this harness.
This is my first R2D2 which turned out OK but I made a second one that is much improved.
I entered my first costume contest ever and won first place!
I attended Dragon Con for the first time in September 2025 so I could march in the huge Saturday parade. The Star Wars group was the largest and was placed at the very end of the parade. The response to my X-wing costume was fantastic. People actually cheered when they saw me! In the video below you can scroll to the 1 hour 27 second mark to see me in my costume. At the one hour 3 minutes 27 second mark you'll see a huge Sand Crawler filled with Jawas!
