I built this project and first shared it at the Asheville Maker Faire. It is designed to be interactive. People gently touch the moving plastic chain and watch the resulting waveforms appear.
An old handheld drill motor turns a giant pulley wheel I made from one inch pink foam insulation which is sandwiched by 1/4" luan plywood. I can control the speed of the motor by a dial. The black bucket is filled with water and that acts as a counterbalance.
I was inspired to build this project after watching this video.
